Princeton University’s Computer Science Department is very excited to welcome its two newest faculty hires.
Barbara Engelhardt is joining us from the faculty at Duke University where she is an Assistant Professor of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics. Her work develops statistical models and methods for high-dimensional biological data, with a goal of understanding the underlying biological mechanisms of complex phenotypes and human diseases. Engelhardt received her PhD from the University of California, Berkeley, advised by Professor Michael Jordan. She also has also worked at the University of Chicago, Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Google Research, and 23andMe. She will join Princeton in September, 2014.
Elad Hazan is an associate professor of operations research at the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology. His main research area is machine learning and its relationship to optimization, game theory and computational complexity. Prior to joining the Technion, Elad spent four years as a research staff member in the Theory Group at the IBM Almaden Research Center. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Princeton University, where he was supervised by Prof. Sanjeev Arora. He will join Princeton in January, 2015.
